Robles, Ottawa City Mayor Jim Watson, and members of the Filipino Community led by the Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley (PICOV) Chairperson Nora Arriola braved the inclement weather as they paraded the City Hall grounds wearing traditional Filipiniana attire to hoist the Philippine Flag in celebration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The Himig ng Pilipino Choral Ensemble led the singing of the Philippine and Canadian National Anthems while Ambassador Robles raised the Philippine flag, flanked by Mayor Watson, Mrs. Nora Robles and Filcom member Mrs. Maura David.
The Filipino community flag-raising ceremony is a traditional event at Ottawa City Hall but was restricted to a limited number of participants in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the recent lifting of health and safety restrictions, close to a hundred people joined the celebration despite the rainy weather.
