Statement on the Declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao

In order to suppress lawless violence and rebellion and for public safety it is necessary to declare Martial Law in the entire island of Mindanao including Sulu, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi for a maximum of 60 days.
The Philippine Government is in full control, and fully aware that the Maute Group / ISIS groups have the capability (although limited) to disturb the peace; they have shown no hesitation in causing havoc, taking innocent lives and destroying property.

8 May 2017 – The Embassy of the Philippines joined Ottawa’s Asian communities in celebrating Asian Heritage Month at the Sir John A. MacDonald Building on Parliament Hill. Organized by the Senate of Canada, this annual tradition was attended by Parliamentarians, employees and staff of Parliament, as well as members of Ottawa’s diverse communities.

9 May 2017, Ottawa – Officials from Canada’s Parliament and Federal Government, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, academe, civil society, students, and media gathered at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa today to attend a briefing conducted by the Philippines’ top officials to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The briefing, titled “ASEAN@50: Partnering for Change, Engaging the World,” was led by H.E. Elizabeth Buensuceso, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, and the Honorable Hellen De La Vega, Philippine Director General for ASEAN Affairs and Acting SOM Leader.
