9 May 2017, Ottawa – Officials from Canada’s Parliament and Federal Government, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, academe, civil society, students, and media gathered at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa today to attend a briefing conducted by the Philippines’ top officials to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The briefing, titled “ASEAN@50: Partnering for Change, Engaging the World,” was led by H.E. Elizabeth Buensuceso, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, and the Honorable Hellen De La Vega, Philippine Director General for ASEAN Affairs and Acting SOM Leader.

4 May 2017, Ottawa – For the second year in a row, the Embassy of the Philippines hosted a benefit dinner for Family Services Ottawa (FSO) at the Tahanang Rizal, the Official Residence of the Ambassador of the Philippines to Canada. The dinner was offered as part of a silent auction during Family Services Ottawa’s Music on a Mission fundraiser held in 2016.

Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia welcomed the latest batch of Filipino immigrants to Canada at a post-arrival orientation briefing held at the Chancery of the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa last 22 April 2017. They represent the newly arrived Filipino immigrants to the province of Quebec who were immediately granted permanent residency during the past few months, many of whom are nurses. They have settled in Gatineau, Quebec, which is part of the Ottawa-Gatineau Municipal Region.
Ambassador Garcia provided suggestions and comments to the participants in order to help them adjust to their new lives in Canada. She encouraged them to participate actively in Filipino community activities and widen their network of friends as they seek to start their respective careers.
