The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa organized a lecture on "Introduction to Maritime Domain Awareness" on 29 June 2017 at the Mindanao Hall of the Chancery as part of its Personnel Continuing Education Program (PCEP). The lecture was attended by personnel of the Embassy and members of the Filipino Student Association in the University of Ottawa.
Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III discussed Philippine initiatives in the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea; the maritime zones laid down by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea; and outstanding maritime issues affecting coastal states like the Philippines, particularly on the issue of ocean fertilization, carbon capture and sequestration, and the effect of black carbon on the Arctic.
