The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa participated in the 5th annual unfurling and raising of the Philippine flag on the iconic Parliament Hill of Canada's capital. The event was hosted by Filipino-Canadian Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr. who was joined in the event by MP Larry Maguire and MP David Graham. Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III led the Philippine Embassy contingent. Delegations from the Filipino communities in Toronto and Montreal participated with the Filipino community in Ottawa in this annual event.
A cultural program was held inside the Canadian Parliament after the unfurling of the flag, showcasing talents from the Filipino-Canadian community in Canada.

16 June 2017, Ottawa – In commemoration of the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa brought together members of the diplomatic corps, officials of Canada’s federal and local government, business, academic, and civic organizations, and representatives of the Filipino community in a reception held on 15 June 2017 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Friends:
Welcome to this celebration in honor of the Philippines’ revolutionary heroes and the Filipino people’s journey toward independence and sovereignty.
This evening the Embassy is pleased to present the distinct images of the Philippines through the works of its gifted young artists in an art exhibit titled: "Filipinism: What Makes Art Filipino," featuring the works of Aris Bagtas, Anna Lumpas, Ronna Manansala, Wifredo Rufon, Sr., and Emman Sia. The exhibit will be housed at the Philippine Embassy and will run from 16 to 26 June 2017.
We are also very fortunate to have with us this evening Messrs. Bagtas and Sia who flew in all the way from Manila for the exhibit.
