The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa commemorated the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women with the screenings of two films, namely, “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok” (The Woman Behind the Tattoo Artist) by Lauren Sevilla Faustino and “Insiang” by Lino Brocka on 1 December 2017 and 7 December 2017, respectively. The films featured two vastly diverse stories of women and their experiences within their communities.

MANNY BALDEMOR UNVEILS “LUZON, VISAYAS, MINDANAO” AT OTTAWA EXHIBIT

14 December 2017, Ottawa - Filipino visual arts master Manuel Baldemor unveiled his latest work during the launching of his exhibit “Aming Tinubuang Lupa” (Our Native Land) hosted by the Embassy of the Philippines in Ottawa on Thursday, 14 December 2017. Titled “Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao,” the triptych panels conveyed scenes from the Philippines’ major islands of the same names and showcased Mr. Baldemor’s trademark combinations of geometry, vivid color, and flowing brush strokes.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY PARTICIPATES IN A CONFERENCE ON ASEAN AT THE MCGILL UNIVERSITY

01 December 2017, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy, represented by Second Secretary Jeffrey Salik, participated in the “ASEAN at 50: Conference on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ 50th Anniversary,” organized and sponsored by the McGill Southeast Asia Lecture Series of the Department of Political Science, McGill University, in Montreal on 30 November 2017.
Mr. Salik reported on the highlights of the outcome of the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Conference. He highlighted the major accomplishments including the signing of the ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers as well as the numerous documents adopted and statements issued at the East Asia Summit, RCEP Summit and the various summits with dialogue partners.
The conference was attended by undergraduate and graduate students of McGill University, academicians, and members of the Working Group of the ASEAN Committee in Ottawa. END
