14 December 2017, Ottawa - Filipino visual arts master Manuel Baldemor unveiled his latest work during the launching of his exhibit “Aming Tinubuang Lupa” (Our Native Land) hosted by the Embassy of the Philippines in Ottawa on Thursday, 14 December 2017. Titled “Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao,” the triptych panels conveyed scenes from the Philippines’ major islands of the same names and showcased Mr. Baldemor’s trademark combinations of geometry, vivid color, and flowing brush strokes.

Mr. Baldemor declared that the inspiration for his latest painting came about when he learned that the Philippine Embassy named each floor of its new building after the islands. Mr. Baldemor plans to donate “Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao” to the Philippine Embassy at the conclusion of his exhibit.

Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila Garcia thanked Mr. Baldemor for accepting the Embassy’s invitation to mount an exhibit and for his donation. She noted that Ottawa was privileged to be visited by an artist of his caliber and that his exhibit makes a significant contribution in promoting a wider understanding of Filipino culture and talent.

“Aming Tinubuang Lupa” is part of Baldemor’s ongoing series on Philippine Folk Modernism and will run at the Mindanao Hall of the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa from 15 December 2017 until 12 January 2018. The exhibit will be open to the public during weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. END.
