Ottawa, Canada – As part of the Embassy’s celebration of Filipino Food Month in the Philippines and Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa highlighted Filipino snacks as it proudly took part in Algonquin College’s 27th annual Celebration of Cultures, held on April 7, 2025, at the Ottawa Campus’ Student Commons. The event brought together a vibrant mix of cultures and communities, giving students and staff a unique opportunity to experience the world without leaving the campus.

The Embassy featured a spread of traditional Philippine snacks and candies which are available in stores in Ottawa, including otap or puff pastry cookies in ube (purple yam) and classic (sugar) flavors. More than a hundred students and staff visited the Philippine table throughout the event, with many expressing curiosity and delight in discovering new flavors.

Alongside the food, the Embassy also shared information about Filipino culture, tourism, and community programs aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding. Souvenirs from the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board as giveaways to lucky guests.

Celebration of Cultures is an annual cultural fair organized by the Algonquin College every April. Diplomatic missions and cultural groups are invited to set up exhibits for students and employees on the college campus showcasing different aspects of their culture. END.
