Philippine Ambassador Meets Filipinos from Toronto and Other Provinces

Ambassador Rodolfo D. Robles stepped anew into cyberspace to meet some members of the Filipino community in the Greater Toronto Area, New Brunswick, Manitoba, and Alberta on 09 December 2020, reflecting the current mode of social engagement under the pandemic situation.
The event, hosted by Mrs. Rosemer Enverga, the wife of the late Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr., was attended by Canadian federal and provincial officials who congratulated Ambassador Robles on his appointment as the new Philippine Ambassador to Canada.
Ambassador Robles underscored the importance of Filipinos in the multicultural society of Canada and highlighted how this has been further magnified through their work in the healthcare sector and other essential services during the current pandemic.
Members of the Filipino community serenaded the attendees with Filipino songs and Christmas carols during the event.

Ambassador Rodolfo D. Robles calls on Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino at Parliament Hill.
Ambassador Rodolfo D. Robles called on Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino at the latter’s parliamentary office in Ottawa on Tuesday, 8 December 2020.
Ambassador Robles and Minister Mendicino both shared the same passion and pride for the contribution of the growing Filipino diaspora in Canada, some of whom reside in the parliamentary riding of Minister Mendicino. They acknowledged the important role the vibrant people-to-people ties contributes to the further strengthening of Philippines-Canada relations.
There are currently close to one million Filipinos in Canada, the second largest Filipino diaspora after those in the United States of America.

07 December 2020, Ottawa – Radio Canada International (RCI), the international broadcasting service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), unveiled its restructuring and transformation plan, which included new programs in the Tagalog and Punjabi languages, as part of its program for greater visibility and an expanded editorial lineup. The expanded lineup will be launched in April, 2021.
In its news releases, CBC-RCI acknowledged that the Tagalog language is increasingly spoken in Canada and noted that the expansion would facilitate better connection and engagement with its target audience, especially to newcomers in Canada. Tagalog and Punjabi will join English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Simplified Chinese in the offerings of RCI next year.
