Philippine Flag Raised on Parliament Hill

14 June 2023, Ottawa – The Philippine flag was once again raised on Canada’s Parliament Hill on 14 June 2023 during a ceremony hosted by Filipino-Canadian Senator Flordeliz “Gigi” Osler in celebration of Filipino Heritage Month and the commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence. Despite the rains, the event was well-attended by members of Canada’s House of Commons and Senate as well as representatives of the Philippine Embassy in Canada, led by Philippine Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria, and members of the Filipino – Canadian communities in Ottawa.
The brief ceremony started with the singing of the Philippine and Canadian National Anthems by the participants of the National Philippine Parliamentary Internship Program of the Canada-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group (CPIPFG). A reception concluded the event. END.

13 June 2023, Ottawa – Citing the Philippine value of “bayanihan”, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thanked the Filipino community for their sacrifices and contributions to Canadian society during the celebration of Filipino Heritage Month and Philippine Independence Day on 12 June 2023.
Filipinos and Canadians gathered on Parliament Hill on Monday to celebrate the 1st in-person celebration of Filipino Heritage Month since the COVID-19 pandemic, held at Sir John A. Macdonald Building on Wellington St., Ottawa. Organized by the Canada-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group (CPIPFG), the event brought together Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, representatives from the business sector, representatives of various Filipino organizations in Ottawa, and nearby cities, and the officers and staff of the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada.
MP Rechie Valdez, Chair of the CPIPFG, welcomed guests and noted the growing partnership between the Philippines and Canada.

PHILIPPINE FLAG HOISTED IN CANADA’S CAPITAL

13 June 2023, Ottawa – The flag-raising ceremony is the second activity organized by the Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley, in cooperation with the Embassy of Philippines in Canada, to celebrate the 125th anniversary Philippine Independence in Ottawa.
Officers and personnel of the Philippine Embassy, led by Philippine Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Maria Andrelita S. Austria, together with Ottawa Mayor, His Worship Mark Sutcliffe, joined the Filipino-Canadian community, led by PICOV Chairperson, Ms. Nora Arriola, in raising the Philippine national flag at Ottawa City Hall on Monday morning, 12 June 2023.
The Ukulele Group led the singing of the Philippine and Canadian National Anthems while Ambassador Austria raised the Philippine flag and was flanked by Mayor Sutcliffe.

12 June 2023, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy in Canada joined around 700 members of the Filipino-Canadian community in Ottawa in their celebration of the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence at a picnic held at Capital Memorial Gardens, Ottawa, on Sunday, 11 June 2023.
After the parade of colors by different Filipino organizations, Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley (PICOV) Chairperson Nora Arriola welcomed and thanked the community for the continued support to the month-long celebration of Philippine Independence in Ottawa. She highlighted the struggles of countless Filipino men and women who fought for freedom. Philippine Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Maria Andrelita S. Austria highlighted the significant contributions of Filipinos in Canadian society and encouraged them to support Filipino professionals and business owners. Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre also joined the morning program and addressed the audience.
