8 May 2023, Ottawa – Philippine Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria met with Montreal City Councillor Stephanie Valenzuela on 5 May 2023. Acknowledging the challenges facing the Filipino community in Montreal, Ambassador Austria committed the Embassy’s support for Councillor Valenzuela’s plans and programs for the community.
Stephanie Valenzuela is the first Filipino-Canadian to hold a position in the City Council of Montreal.

5 May 2023 - Philippine Ambassador to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria paid a courtesy call on Canada’s Minister for International Development Harjit Sajjan on 4 May 2023 in his office in Ottawa. Minister Sajjan is also the Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada.
During the call, Minister Sajjan talked about his recent visit to the Philippines, which gave him a better understanding of the development needs of the country. He recalled the Filipinos’ hospitality and generosity of spirit while visiting several development projects that were supported by Canada.
With the recent announcement of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and its accompanying budget for the first five years, Minister Sajjan highlighted Canada’s readiness to support the Philippines’ interests in various areas, including in climate resilience and food security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, maritime security and the blue economy, and entrepreneurship.

5 MAY 2023, Ottawa – Philippine Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria formally presented her Letter of Credence to Governor General Mary Simon of Canada in a stately ceremony held at the Rideau Hall in the afternoon of 28 March 2023.
Ambassador Austria also handed over to Governor General Simon the letter of recall of her predecessor, Ambassador Rodolfo D. Robles.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Austria expressed appreciation to Governor General Simon for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the strength and vitality of the bilateral relationship between Philippines and Canada.
Ambassador Austria also conveyed that she looks forward to working with the Government of Canada to jointly address both countries’ shared interests and to contribute to the continued flourishing of Philippines-Canada partnership, as well as the promotion of the interests of 1 million strong and vibrant members of the Filipino diaspora that regards Canada as its second home.
Philippine Ambassador Meets Philippine Centre Canada

2 May 2023- The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, led by Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria, met with the Board of the Philippine Centre Canada (PCC) to discuss activities and initiatives for Filipino migrants, workers, and students in Canada. The PCC Board was led by Chairperson Lota Bertulfo.
Ambassador Austria expressed support for the objectives and programs of the PCC, including their most recent activity celebrating Filipino-Canadian women on 26 March 2023.
Ambassador Austria and Chairperson Bertulfo also discussed initiatives to address the various challenges faced by Filipino migrants, including credentials recognition. Based on Canada’s 2021 census, there are 16,105 Filipinos in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, a 27% increase from the 2016 census. - END
