19 June 2023, Ottawa –The Philippine Embassy in Canada, led by Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria hosted on 14 June 2023 its first diplomatic reception since the pandemic in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence, at the Mindanao Hall of the Embassy chancery. Over 150 guests, consisting of members of the diplomatic corps, Canadian government officials, Filipino community leaders in Ottawa, and key partners in various sectors attended the event. Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Robert Oliphant and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development Anita Vandenbeld graced the event as Guests of Honor.
In her toast remarks, Ambassador Austria cited various positive developments in Philippines-Canada bilateral relations, highlighting the recent decision to establish Canada’s Indo-Pacific Agriculture Office in Manila and the inclusion of the Philippines in Canada’s Electronic Travel Authorization Program.
In response, MP Oliphant and MP Vandenbeld recounted the long and cordial relations between the two countries and expressed appreciation for the Philippines’ contributions to Canada’s diversity and dynamism.
Showcasing the talent of Filipinos, the Philippine Dance Troupe of Ottawa (PDTO) wowed the audience with their performance of traditional dances of Binasuan, Subli, and Tinikling. The guests were also treated to original Pilipino music through Mr. Roberto Madlansacay on the piano.
The dinner buffet featured a completely Philippine cuisine that includes lechon belly, sisig, pancit palabok, turon, puto, and biko, among others, partnered with cocktails using Filipino liquor from Destileria Limtuaco, which the guests thoroughly enjoyed. END.
