07 December 2020, Ottawa – Radio Canada International (RCI), the international broadcasting service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), unveiled its restructuring and transformation plan, which included new programs in the Tagalog and Punjabi languages, as part of its program for greater visibility and an expanded editorial lineup. The expanded lineup will be launched in April, 2021.
In its news releases, CBC-RCI acknowledged that the Tagalog language is increasingly spoken in Canada and noted that the expansion would facilitate better connection and engagement with its target audience, especially to newcomers in Canada.
