“Mana: Conversations with Filipino Culture Bearers” Brings Stories of Filipino Indigenous People to Canada

Sentro Rizal Ottawa of the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Consulates General of the Philippines in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, presents “Mana: Conversations with Filipino Culture Bearers,” a series of heartfelt exchanges with members of Filipino indigenous groups.
The Philippines is home to more than a hundred ethno-linguistic groups, with indigenous groups comprising an estimated 10 to 15% of its population. These groups have lived on the archipelago for many centuries, weaving the traditions of their ancestors into the colorful tapestry of Filipino culture and bringing them into the 21st century.
“Mana” follows Bernadeth Ofong, a Cultural Master of the T’Boli School of Living Traditions, Salika Maguindanao of the Maranao Collectibles Service Cooperative, and Joel and Henia Blunto of Sesotunawa as they share glimpses of their lives and their practices that have withstood the test of time. As the world seeks environmentally friendly means of production and sustainable lifestyles, we have much to learn from their heritage.
Join us every Wednesday, from 3 to 17 November 2021, as we bring their stories online on our official Facebook and Twitter Pages (@PHinCanada) and YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9JPRu3AhZEkOkq0vY4-tAw #KulturaPH #InstaKultura #SentroRizal @nccaofficial
