A delegation from the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Toronto, led by Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, visited the facilities of Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 19 September 2022. The delegation was received by Human Resources Vice President Jim Rennie.
Arranged by Consul, a.h. Consuelo Lacson, the visit allowed the delegation to inspect the worksite where the fourth Arctic Off-Shore Patrol Vessel of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is currently being built. With Irving Shipbuilding contracted to build the CAF's next generation Canadian Surface Combatants (CSC) fleet, the company is currently recruiting Filipino shipbuilding employees to meet its manpower requirement for this critical contract.
Philippines Participates in 17th ICAO TRIP Symposium in Montreal

19 September 2022 – A delegation from the DFA Office of Consular Affairs participated in the 17th Traveller Information Program (TRIP) Symposium in Montreal, Canada from 13 to 15 September 2022. The TRIP Symposium is a venue for updates on the international standards relating to traveller information including ePassports.
DFA OCA Assistant Secretary Henry Bensurto, and Passport Division Assistant Director Von Ryan Pangwi was joined by Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jan Michael Gomez as part of the Philippine Delegation.

Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III met Irving Shipbuilding's Human Resources Vice President Jim Rennie in Halifax to better understand the company's manpower requirements. The initial meeting took place on 18 September 2022 with Labor Representative Rachel Zozobrado-Nagayo and Consul, a.h. Consuelo Lacson.
Contracted to build the Canadian Armed Forces' next generation of naval surface warships, Irving Shipbuilding is tapping the experiences and expertise of Filipinos in this important endeavor.

The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, together with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Toronto, hosted a Post Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) in Halifax for Filipino employees on 18 September 2022.
Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III introduced participants to indicators necessary to combat human trafficking. POLO officials led by Labor Representative Rachel Zozobrado-Nagayo and Welfare Officer Malou Reyes briefed participants on POLO services available to them. Consul, a.h. Consuelo Lacson, who is based in Halifax, was likewise in attendance to welcome the participants.
