12 June 2024, Ottawa – In celebration of the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month, the Ottawa Sign in the historic By-Ward Market once again lit up with the vibrant colors of the Philippine flag on 12 June 2024.
For the first time this year, the Confederation Building in Newfoundland and Labrador was also illuminated with Philippine national colors. Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians living in St. John’s gathered to witness the lighting during the sunset of 12 June 2024.
The lighting displays served as a symbol of Filipino pride and unity, showcasing the Philippines’ rich history and cultural heritage. It also symbolized the strong people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Canada, highlighting the significant contributions of the Filipino diaspora in various sectors across Canada. END

12 June 2024, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy participated in the annual unfurling and hoisting of the Philippine flag on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in honor of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, Filipino Heritage Month, and 75th Anniversary of the Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations. The event was hosted by Senator Flordeliz Osler and Member of Parliament Marco Mendicino.

12 June 2024, Ottawa – The annual flag raising ceremony at the Ottawa City Hall on Wednesday morning, 12 June 2024, jump started the series of activities in celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and Philippine Heritage Month organized by the Philippine Independence Committee in the Ottawa Valley (PICOV) chaired by Mrs. Nora Arriola and supported by various Filipino-Canadian organizations.
In solemn rites, officers and personnel of the Philippine Embassy, led by Philippine Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Maria Andrelita S. Austria, together with Ottawa Mayor, His Worship Mark Sutcliffe, joined the Filipino-Canadian community in raising the Philippine national flag in front of Ottawa City Hall.

11 June 2024, Ottawa – The Embassy of the Philippines to Canada, led by Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria, in cooperation with the Canada-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by Member of Parliament Marco Mendicino, hosted a diplomatic reception to celebrate the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month on Parliament Hill on 11 June 2024. Minister of Small Business Rechie Valdez, the first Filipina to serve in the Canadian Ministry, was the Guest of Honor.
Over 150 distinguished representatives from the federal government, diplomatic corps, Filipino community, and key partners from various sectors filled the Sir John A. MacDonald hall.
As co-host of this year’s Philippine Independence Day reception, MP Mendicino shared stories of his recent visit to the Philippines and emphasized Canada and Philippines’ collaboration on trade and security and strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.
