12 June 2024, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy participated in the annual unfurling and hoisting of the Philippine flag on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in honor of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, Filipino Heritage Month, and 75th Anniversary of the Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations. The event was hosted by Senator Flordeliz Osler and Member of Parliament Marco Mendicino.

During the brief ceremony, a giant flag of the Philippines was unfurled in front of the centennial flame. The ceremony was followed by the singing of the Philippine and Canadian National Anthems. Representatives from the Senate of Canada, the Conservative Party, Liberal Party, New Democratic Party, and Bloc Quebecois participated in the ceremony and offered their greetings to the Filipino Community.

The event was attended by members of Canada’s House of Commons and Senate as well as representatives of the Philippine Embassy in Canada, led by Philippine Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria, Mrs. Rosemer Enverga, and members of various Filipino – Canadian communities in Ottawa. The event is a tradition started by the late Filipino-Canadian Senator Tobias Enverga. END
