Philippine Embassy in Canada Observes Purple Wednesday for Women's Month

1 MARCH 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Canada observed Purple Wednesday as part of the month-long celebration of National Women’s Month. #PurpleWednesday is an initiative of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to show support for gender equality and women empowerment.
Aside from Purple Wednesdays, the Embassy will likewise hold a series of activities to celebrate National Women’s Month, focusing on the empowerment of women and girls toward maximizing their benefit from innovation and technology as well as bridging the gender gap in ICT and connectivity.
According to PCW, purple is globally recognized as “the color of women” and symbolizes justice and dignity. Join us in supporting women empowerment by wearing purple. END
Embassy Personnel Participate in Acrylic Painting Workshop

28 February 2023 – To conclude the celebration of the National Arts Month under this year’s theme “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing”, Embassy personnel participated in an acrylic painting workshop held at the Chancery’s Mindanao Hall.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Jeffrey Peñamante Salik led the workshop and encouraged everyone to express their talent and creativity, and show their artistic side by mixing and splashing different colors on a white canvas. He urged them to be courageous in experimenting with brush strokes and techniques in applying acrylic paints on their respective canvases.
At the end of the two-hour workshop, the Embassy personnel presented their output which will be displayed at the Chancery when the participants all finish their respective work. END
The Philippine Embassy Hosts the Opening of Pinoys on Parliament 2023

27 February 2023 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada hosted the opening reception of the Pinoys on Parliament (POP 2023) Conference held on 24 February 2023 at the University of Ottawa’s Tabaret Hall. More than 250 young members of the Filipino diaspora from all over Canada participated in the POP 2023.
The conference opened with a networking, cultural event, and a keynote address by Ann Pornel, a Canadian sketch comedian, actress, and television host based in Toronto.
This year's conference's theme, “Balikbayan”, aimed to provide a space for Filipino-Canadian youth to explore the meaning of coming home by delving into shared identities and belonging while living in Canada.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Jeffrey Peñamante Salik, in his speech, emphasized that the Filipino diaspora serves as the cornerstone of the Philippines-Canada relations. Filipino-Canadians Senator Flordeliz “Gigi” Osler and Member of Parliament Rechie Valdez also attended the event.

Philippine Embassy and Filipino Community Leaders in Ottawa discuss migration and international development with Filipino-Canadian Member of Parliament Rechie Valdez

23 February 2023- The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, led by Charge d’Affaires, a.i, Jeffrey Peñamante Salik, in partnership with the Office of Filipino-Canadian Member of Parliament Rechie Valdez, hosted a roundtable discussion with Filipino Community Leaders in Ottawa on 23 February 2023 at the Mindanao Hall, Philippine Embassy, on issues and challenges faced by Filipino migrants in Canada.
MP Valdez is the first Canadian woman of Filipino heritage to get elected to the House of Commons, and only the second Canadian of Filipino heritage to sit as a member of Canada’s Parliament. She also serves as the Chairperson of the Canada-Philippines Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
