PHILIPPINE EMBASSY AND PEI’S DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE LOOK TO EXPAND COOPERATION

19 September 2023, Ottawa - The Philippine Embassy called on PEI’s Deputy Premier and concurrent Minister of Agriculture Bloyce Thompson on 18 September 2023. The Philippine Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission Myca Magnolia M. Fischer highlighted the importance the Philippines has placed on agriculture and food security. Minister Thompson noted previous cooperation between the Philippines and PEI on potatoes which had seen success in improving the yields of Filipino potato farmers. Both sides agreed to look into expanding this cooperation to other high value crops, as well as looking into possible cooperation in bovine genetics.

19 September 2023, Ottawa - The Philippine Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission Myca Magnolia M. Fischer called on Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry at her official residence in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Ms. Fischer noted the growing number of Filipinos in PEI and their many contributions to the economic development and cultural vibrancy of the island. Lieutenant Governor Perry shared the many policy matters they had to work on in favor of PEI’s migrant communities which have sharply risen in the last decade.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY CONDUCTS TOWN HALL BRIEFING WITH FILIPINO COMMUNITY LEADERS AND BUSINESSMEN IN PEI

19 September 2023, Ottawa - The Philippine Embassy met with leaders of the Filipino community and business owners in Prince Edward Island on 15 September 2023 at Charlottetown’s City Hall. Deputy Head of Mission Myca Magnolia Fischer informed the community about its services and programs. During the discussions, the Filipino Community shared the opportunities they enjoyed in PEI as well as some of the challenges and concerns they encountered in living and working in the island. Also in attendance was Mayor Philip Brown of Charlottetown acknowledged the contribution of hard-working Filipinos to the development of his city. He also identified key programs and agencies within PEI which may be of help to the Filipino community.
Philippine Embassy Joins ASEAN Committee in Ottawa's Family Day Bowling 2023

11 September 2023, Ottawa - Philippine Embassy personnel and their families participated in the ASEAN Committee in Ottawa’s (ACO) Family Day on 9 September 2023 at the Anik Bowling Centre in Gatineau. The ACO Family Day is an annual event aimed at deepening camaraderie and friendship among members and families of the ASEAN missions in Ottawa.
Under the current ACO Chairmanship of the High Commission of Malaysia, a bowling activity was organized this year with personnel and family members of every ASEAN member’s mission mixed together to form different teams. At the end of the bowling tournament, ACO personnel and family members shared with each other dishes and desserts from their own countries.
