PHILIPPINES SHARES EXPERIENCE ON MARRIAGE MIGRATION

Philippine government officials shared best practices with regional counterparts in a workshop on marriage migration and counter-trafficking in persons. Organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the workshop took place in Beijing from 12 to 13 September.
Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III joined DFA Passport Director Ricarte Abejuela III, Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Officer-in-Charge Maria Regina Galias, Bureau of Immigration Travel Control Deputy Director German Robin, and CFO Division Chief Ivy Miravelles in sharing the experiences of the Philippines in protecting the rights and welfare of Filipinos who marry foreign nationals and reside overseas.
The participants were senior officials from law enforcement, immigration, and diplomatic services from Cambodia, Lao PDR, People's Republic of China, and Viet Nam.
The Philippines is a strong advocate for the promotion and protection of the rights of migrants and its efforts in this regard have been lauded by both international organizations and foreign governments. For its part, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa has scheduled regular training of its personnel in combating human trafficking to ensure their competence in protecting Filipinos in Canada.

THE PHILIPPINES PARTICPATES IN ICAO'S GLOBAL SECURITY SYMPOSIUM 2017 IN MONTREAL
14 September 2017, Ottawa - The Philippines participates in International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO's) inaugural Global Security Symposium (AVSEC2017) which runs from 12 to 14 September 2017 at ICAO's Headquarters in Montreal.
The symposium, organized by ICAO in collaboration with Airports Council International (ACI), brings together aviation and security experts and professionals from around the globe. It aims to promote the cultivation of a novel aviation security paradigm, one that is beyond a fixed set of standards, and to strengthen international cooperation and collaboration to address current challenges facing aviation security including, terroristthreats targeting civil aviation. The symposium's main tagline No Country Is Left Behind succinctly reminds everyone that the entire global aviation security system is only as good as its weakest link.
The Philippine Delegation is composed of officials from the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, the Office of Transportation Security, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the Civil Aviation Training Center, and the Bureau of Immigration.
The delegation visited the booths of exhibitors, including Aviation ISAC, PostEurop RapiScan Systems, Osprey Flight Solutions, Tudor Tech, and NucTech, which showcased the latest state-of-the art aviation security technologies. END.

In light of Hurricane Irma and oncoming Hurricane José, the Embassy of the Philippines conveys the following advisories to Filipinos in Bermuda:
- According to the Bermuda Weather Service, Hurricane José is “not a threat to Bermuda at this time,” and its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 411 nautical miles to the south-southwest at 9am on Tuesday, September 12. However, the BWS adds that “this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period.”
