HILIGAYNON ASSOCIATION IN QUEBEC CELEBRATES 28TH ANNIVERSARY

In support of Ambassador Petronila Garcia’s advocacy to strengthen the network of Filipino community organizations across Canada, Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III attended the 28th anniversary of the Kahirup (Hiligaynon) Association of Quebec (KAQ) held at Hotel Universel in Montreal, Canada.
The anniversary ball saw the induction of the new officers of KAQ led by its president Jeannette Perignon, the cultural performance of the KAQ Dance Troupe, and other song-and-dance medley rendered by Filipino talents in Montreal.
Montreal is home to approximately 35,000 Filipinos and Canadians of Filipino heritage. The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa provides monthly consular outreach missions to the Filipino diaspora in Montreal.

07 October 2019- The Philippine Embassy joined the Kababaihang Rizalista Montreal Chapter in the celebration of its 20th Founding Anniversary held at the St. Kevin Parish Church in Montreal on 05 October 2019.
The Embassy was represented by its Cultural Attaché, Ms. Aileen B. Cuya, who read the congratulatory message of Philippine Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia for the occasion.
Ms. Cuya applauded the Kababaihang Rizalista Montreal Chapter for its efforts in building better Filipino-Canadian community.
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN OTTAWA PROMOTES HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS IN REGINA

Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia despatched a consular team to Regina, Saskatchewan from the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa last 27 September 2019. In a breakfast meeting on 28 September 2019 with the newly elected officials of the Philippine Association of Saskatchewan led by its president, Architect Pepito Escanlar, Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III enjoined the community leaders to be vigilant in monitoring cases of illegal recruitment and human trafficking affecting Filipinos in the province. DCM Fernandez shared with them information on the basic elements of illegal recruitment and human trafficking, while noting the limitations of Canadian legislation regarding human trafficking.
There are approximately 33,600 Filipinos and Canadian of Filipino heritage in the province of Saskatchewan, most of whom reside in the cities of Regina and Saskatoon.
