02 October 2019, Ottawa – Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia, DTI Undersecretary Rowel S. Barba, and First Secretary Jeffrey Salik, together with a delegation from the Philippines composed of representatives from the film animation and electronic games industry, attended a panel discussion entitled “Global Check in: Canary Island, Jamaica, and the Philippines,” held at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier on 26 September 2019. The panel discussion was part of the Animation Conference and the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival.

Philippine Embassy in Ottawa Launches Pamana – Sights and Sounds of Our Filipino Heritage

02 October 2019, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa successfully launched Pamana – Sights and Sounds of Our Filipino Heritage held on 26 September 2019 at the Sentro Rizal of the Chancery of the Embassy. The event featured the artwork of talented Filipino-Canadian artists – Mr. Pepito Escanlar and Ms. Ella Brion – and the music of Minstrels of Hope, who flew all the way from Manila. The event was attended by members of the diplomatic community, Canadian personalities, members of the International Club of Ottawa, and members of a business delegation from the Philippines led by DTI Undersecretary Rowel S. Barba.

PHILIPPINES ATTENDS TRIENNIUM ICAO ASSEMBLY

Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia headed the Philippine Delegation to the 40th Session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III as Alternate Chief Delegate. The participants from Manila were headed by Director General Jim Sydiongco of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and included Chief Legal Officer Wyrlou Samodio of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), CAAP Chief of Staff Danjun Lucas, and CAAP Head Executive Assistant Roberto Martin S. Buenaventura.
The Assembly is meeting at the ICAO Headquarters in Montreal and is expected to adopt policies to guide the regulation of international civil aviation for the next three years, including harmonization of programs to facilitate international travel while addressing aviation security concerns.

Dr. Darrel Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs, a polling firm, shared his prognostications on the forthcoming Canadian federal elections in October, 2019.
