PR 2 2023 Embassy Visits Indigenous Peoples Exhibit at the Canadian Museum of History

3 January 2023, Ottawa - The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, led by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i, Francisco Noel Fernandez III, organized a tour of the Grand Hall and related exhibits of the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec on 29 December 2022, featuring the Indigenous People’s survival of their culture and their contributions to cultural diversity of modern Canada. The tour highlighted the history, cultures and beliefs of the First Peoples of Canada’s Pacific Coast.

The Grand Hall features six iconic Native houses connected by a boardwalk and totem poles, and two exhibitions on the First Peoples of the Northwest Coast and the Tsimshian Prehistory. These were shed to light by archaeological excavations carried out from 1966 to 1978 in British Columbia.

This activity is part of the Embassy’s efforts to enrich its personnel’s appreciation of the history and culture of the Indigenous Peoples in Canada as it relates to contemporary issues. END

PR 1 2023 Philippine Embassy Commemorates the 126th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

30 December 2022 - The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada, together with the Knights of Rizal (KOR) Gatineau Chapter, commemorated the 126th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. José P. Rizal at the Embassy Chancery in Ottawa.

The event kicked off with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and recitation of Panunumpa sa Watawat. Rev. Fr. Francis Victor Mateo, OFM, led the opening prayers and KOR Chapter Commander Sir Danilo Arriola delivered his opening remarks. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Francisco Noel Fernandez III and KOR Chapter Commander Sir Danilo Arriola offered a wreath at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal.

Included in the commemoration was the reading of Dr. Rizal's “Mi Ultimo Adios” in Spanish by Ms. Alessandra Fernandez and in English by Mr. Dylan Mycah Morfe. The event was followed by the oath-taking of new officers and the elevation Sir Dax Alberto Morfe as the new Chapter Commander of the Knights of Rizal Gatineau Chapter.

Dinner, hosted by Knights of Rizal Gatineau Chapter, culminated the Rizal Day celebration. END
