The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada joins the nation in celebrating the National Arts Month (NAM) 2023, with this year’s theme “ANI NG SINING, BUNGA NG GALING.” Said theme recognizes excellence in the arts as both a source of bounty despite challenging times, and a product of the passion of Filipino artists and cultural workers.
Promulgated by then President Corazon Aquino in 1991, Presidential Proclamation No. 683 declared February of every year as National Arts Month to celebrate the artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture.
Philippine Embassy Recognizes its 2022 Most Outstanding Employee

Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Jeffrey Peñamante Salik, with personnel from the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, posed with Ms. Josephine Gonato who received the 2022 Most Outstanding Embassy Employee Award.
16 January 2023, Ottawa – On behalf of former Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, Consul General Jeffrey Peñamante Salik conferred today to Ms. Josephine Gonato the Most Outstanding Embassy Employee Award of 2022 in recognition of continuous dedicated service to the Embassy.
Ms. Gonato has been serving at the Philippine Embassy since February 1997.
Filipino Honorary Consul in Regina Featured in 2023 DFA Desk Calendar

4 January 2023, Ottawa. Pepito Escanlar’s “Dinagyang” opens, as a featured artwork, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs’ 2023 Desk Calendar “Juan and Culture.” Escanlar is the Philippine Honorary Consul in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The image depicts the vigor, youthfulness, exuberance, and colorful costumes of the performances and festivities at the annual Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City, Escanlar’s hometown. Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural celebration that pay tribute to the Holy Child Jesus or fondly called as Sto. Niño.
Likewise featured in the calendar are Tedorico “Teody” Asuncion’s “Balikatan (Bayanihan)” and Edgardo Lantin’s “Fresh Catch”. Lantin is based in British Columbia while Asuncion is from Ontario.
The “Juan and Culture” 2023 Desk Calendar highlights the uniqueness and wonder of the Philippines and its people through art by Filipinos all across the globe. They reflect the traits and characteristics that make Filipinos stand out – pakikipagkapwa, bayanihan, love for the family, respect for the elderly, courage, resilience, and faith in the almighty.
