12 April 2017, Ottawa - Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia welcomed officers of the newly-formed Filipino Students Association – uOttawa in a courtesy call held at the Philippine Embassy on 12 April 2017.
Calling on the Ambassador are FSA Co-President Angelique Maiquez, VP External Steven Travale, VP Logistics Elle Tejano-Gallupo, VP Outreach Earl Tamayo and Mikhaela De La Pena, Social/Cultural Committee member Julia Mira Flores, and VP Philanthropy Bailey Clinton. Joining the Ambassador are DCM Francisco Noel Fernandez, Minister and Consul General Eric Gerardo Tamayo, Consul Greg Marino, and Vice Consul Siegfried Masangkay.

4 April 2017, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa joined other members of the diplomatic corps at Algonquin College during the school’s 22nd Annual Celebration of Cultures. The event featured traditional cuisine, art, handicrafts, tourism, and music and dance performances of the different countries represented in Ottawa.
Those who visited the Philippines’ booth also availed themselves of free samples of Filipino pancit bihon (rice noodles with chicken and vegetables), biko (sticky rice with coconut milk and brown sugar) and maja blanca (coconut pudding). Visitors also received brochures on tourist spots in the Philippines while others talked to Embassy representatives about Filipino history, culture, and geography. END

The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa opened a book of condolence for the late Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani on Friday, 24 March 2017. Expressions of sympathy and condolences were conveyed on the pages of the book by heads of diplomatic missions in Ottawa for the family of the late Senator Shahani and the Filipino people.
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY HIGHLIGHTS GENDER SENSITIVITY FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH

In celebration of International Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa conducted a workshop on Gender Sensitivity on Thursday, 16 March 2017. The workshop, which was attended by all Embassy personnel, tackled gender concepts, the impact of culture and gender, and the use of gender fair language, with a view to maintaining gender sensitive workplaces and promoting gender mainstreaming as mandated by the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Gender and Development Plan and the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710).
