17 August 2023: Philippine Ambassador to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria paid a courtesy call on Ottawa mayor, His Worship Mark Sutcliffe. During the meeting, Ambassador Austria informed the Mayor of recent developments in the Filipino community in Ottawa, including the surge in the number of Filipino students this academic year. She also shared information on the Embassy’s priorities and programs to support the growing Filipino diaspora. Mayor Sutcliffe acknowledged the significant contribution of the Filipino community in Ottawa and in Canada.

PR 127 2023 PH Embassy Meets with MP Kevin Lamoureux of Winnipeg North Manitoba

15 August 2023, Ottawa – Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria met today with Member of Parliament (MP) Kevin Lamoureux of Winnipeg North, Manitoba at the Philippine Embassy. Ambassador Austria noted MP Lamoureux’ many contributions to the Filipino Community not just in his riding, but also on advocacies that matter to Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians as the previous chair of the Canada-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group. MP Lamoureux responded that Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians have revitalized many parts of Canada and have contributed much in its nation building.

Both look forward to commemorating the 75^th anniversary of Philippine-Canada diplomatic relations next year.

12 August 2023, Ottawa- Philippine Ambassador to Canada Ma. Andrelita S. Austria joined Friends of One Vision, led by Betty Obas, the Ottawa Senior Citizens of Ottawa Valley and members of the Filipino Community on their 8th annual picnic at the Brittania Park, Ottawa. Member of Parliament for Nepean Chandra Arya also graced the occasion.

Through its various activities, Friends of One Vision has contributed to local non profit organizations, such as Cornerstone Housing for Women, children of Ala Eh in Batangas, Philippines and Terry Fox Centre-Encounters, and the Ottawa Seniors Citizens of Ottawa Valley.- END

Austria met with Global Affairs Canada Assistant Deputy Minister for Asia Weldon Epp at the Mindanao Hall of the Embassy of the Philippines in Ottawa. During the meeting, they discussed various areas of cooperation between the Philippines and Canada, including people-to-people ties, defense and security, agriculture and fisheries, among others.
