25 January 2018 – Philippine Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia was given the Ambassador of the Year Award (Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania Region) by the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa at its inaugural Annual Public Diplomacy and Ambassadors of the Year Awards reception held on 24 January 2018.
The awardees were based on the results of a public online poll asking respondents their favorite Embassy in the seven regions identified as: North and Central America; South America; Europe; Middle East; Africa; Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania; and Asia (not belonging to Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania).
The awardees for Ambassador of the Year for the other regions were Ambassador Kelly Knight Craft of the USA (North and Central America); Ambassador Juan Diego Stacey Moreno of Ecuador (South America); Ambassador Enrique Ruiz Molero of Spain (Europe); Ambassador Naif Bin Bandir Alsudairy of Saudi Arabia (Middle East); High Commissioner Sibongiseni Dlamini-Mntambo of South Africa (Africa); and Ambassador Kimihiro Ishikane of Japan (Asia not belonging to Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania).
As the current Dean of the Asia Pacific Group, Ambassador Garcia likewise received a recognition certificate as one of the First Regional Dean Founders of the said Awards. END
