The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada joins the nation in commemorating the 160th birth anniversary of Gat Andres BonifaciO, the founder of the Katipunan. This year’s theme is "Bonifacio 2023: Katungkulan at Pananagutan Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Bayan."

Andrés Bonifacio, a key figure in Philippine history, is revered as a nationalist and revolutionary, often hailed as 'the father of the Philippine Revolution'. He co-founded the “Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan" (commonly known as "Katipunan") in 1892, aimed at overthrowing Spanish colonial rule. As the Katipunan's commander-in-chief, Bonifacio played a crucial role in the revolution and our eventual independence.
