The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada joins the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), 25 November to 12 December 2023. An advocacy campaign that is observed annually, as mandated by Proclamation No. 1172 s. 2006.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), in consonance with the UN Women’s initiative “UNITE by 2030 to End Violence Against Women”, highlights the recurring campaign theme, “UNiTEd for a VAW-Free Philippines” to continuously advocate for the prevention and elimination of VAW in the country.
This year’s 18-Day End VAW Campaign aims to:
- Revisit the amendments on laws protecting women and girls, specifically the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (R.A. No. 9262), the Anti-Rape Law (R.A. No. 8353 as amended by R.A. No. 11648), the Safe Spaces Act (R.A. No. 11313), the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 (R.A. No. 7877), and the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022 (R.A. No. 9208 as amended by R.A. No. 11862);
- Aid in disseminating information about the status of VAW in the Philippines; and
- Gather public support for the advocacy and solicit shared insights on the public’s level of awareness and knowledge on VAW.
