22 March 2025, Ottawa – The Philippine Embassy in Canada, represented by Deputy Chief of Mission Myca Magnolia M. Fischer, joined a distinguished panel of diplomats at the Capital Model United Nations (CAPMUN) 2025, addressing more than 150 student-delegates at the University of Ottawa.

CAPMUN, organized by the University of Ottawa’s Model United Nations Association, is Canada’s only fully bilingual secondary school Model UN conference. Since its establishment in 2015, it has provided a platform for young leaders to engage in global issues through diplomacy and collaboration. CAPMUN 2025, held from March 21 to 23, carries the theme “From the Next Decade to the Next Centuries,” focusing on the future of international relations, global leadership, and the importance of multilingualism and cultural understanding.

Ms. Fischer took the opportunity to discuss the three pillars of  Philippine foreign policy, women in diplomacy,  and the experiences of diplomats in international relations. The panel included by Mr. Mehdi Gaouane, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canada; Ms. Hejin Kim, Minister-Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and Ms. Stéphanie Plante, City Councillor for Ottawa – Ward 12 (Rideau-Vanier).

During the discussion, DCM Fischer highlighted the Philippines’ commitment to fostering global cooperation and the role of women in diplomacy. She encouraged young delegates to pursue careers in diplomacy, emphasizing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning in shaping a successful diplomatic career.

The event provided an invaluable opportunity for students to engage directly with diplomats, gaining insights into the complexities and rewards of working in international affairs.
