27 April 2022, Ottawa - In a simple oath taking ceremony held at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, Mr. Pepito “Pete” Escanlar (right) was sworn in as Philippine Honorary Consul in Regina, Saskatchewan by Philippine Ambassador to Canada Rodolfo D. Robles.
An architect by profession and a native of Iloilo, Mr. Escanlar is also known for his active community work in Regina, SK. While working to foster deeper understanding of Filipino culture through the Philippine Association of Saskatchewan (PAS), he is also engaged in local projects to encourage youth involvement in visual art and has worked with the Urban Canvas Program for the Downtown Regina Business Improvement District from 2019 to 2021.
Ambassador Robles noted that he is primarily tasked to ensure the welfare and well being of the more than 36,000 overseas Filipinos in Regina, Saskatchewan, among other considerations, and to actively liaise with the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, Alberta, in the formulation and execution of the plans and programs of Philippine Posts in Canada. Escanlar joins Consul, a.h. Ronaldo Opina of Winnipeg and Consul, a.h. Consuelo Lacson of Halifax in heading Philippine Honorary Consulates General across Canada.
