PR 108 Filipino Heritage Day

As Filipinos throughout Canada celebrate the first Filipino Heritage Month, the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada joined the Filipino community in Ottawa at the Sir John A. MacDonald Building for another event to highlight Filipino culture and the contributions of Filipino migrants to Canadian society on Saturday, 22 June 2019.

Dubbed “Filipino Heritage Day @ Parliament Hill,” the event featured cultural performances from different choral groups, the Philippine Dance Troupe of Ottawa (PDTO), local musicians, and a trio of speakers who brought the house down with their Balagtasan (traditional Filipino debate in verse) of Tony Gecolea’s “Alin ang Higit na Mainam: Tag-lamig o Tag-init” (Which is Better: Winter or Summer).

The Philippine Embassy installed a mini-exhibit of Filipino crafts and tourism destinations at the venue. END.
