13 July 2017, Ottawa – Ambassador Petronila Garcia welcomed Cabinet Secretary and Mrs. Leoncio Evasco, Jr. at the Embassy on 10 July 2017. They were accompanied by a number of Filipino Community members from Toronto. The Ambassador toured the Secretary Evasco and company around the newly acquired three-storey Embassy building in Murray St.

Cabinet Secretary Evasco is visiting Canada to attend the 17th Biennial Convention of the Confederation of Boholanos in USA and Canada (CONBUSAC) on 8 July 2017 and meet with members of the Filipino Community in Toronto, Newcastle and Montreal. Prior to the Convention, he also attended a press conference organized by a number of Filipino media outlets in Toronto.

During his meetings with the members of various Filipino communities in Newcastle and Montreal, Secretary Evasco briefed them on the government’s plan to shift towards a federal form of government, the current situation in Marawi, President Duterte’s campaign against drugs and corruption, peace talks with the CPP-NPA, and the President’s transport infrastructure development plans and programs designed to enhance connectivity and facilitate movement of people, goods and services within and outside the country.
