24 June 2017, Ottawa – As part of the Embassy’s Personnel Continuing Education Program (PCEP) and in line with the commemoration of the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa organized a Workshop on Filipino Desserts in the afternoon of Saturday, 24 June 2017. The Workshop was conducted by Batangas cake artist and Kunst Gallery Project Coordinator Mr. Bill Perez and attended by more than twenty Embassy personnel and their families.

In a span of four hours, the participants learned to bake familiar desserts with a modern Filipino twist. Mr. Perez taught the group basic concepts of baking and cake decorating, as well as how to incorporate Filipino ingredients into the cake recipes. With members of the audience assisting in the assembly and baking of the pastries, the Workshop yielded banana walnut, chocolate, chiffon, butter rum, carrot, and mango jubilee cakes.

Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia thanked Mr. Perez for conducting the workshop, noting that the techniques he taught will be very helpful for the participants in preparing pastries. She also observed that the recipes will give the participants the opportunity to introduce Filipino flavors to those who may not be familiar with Filipino cuisine. –END--
