21 September 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia visited Whitehorse in Yukon Territory from September 14 to 15 and met with key Yukon government officials and members of the Filipino community.

Ambassador Garcia met with Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski along with Speaker David Laxton, Mayor Dan Curtis and Commissioner Doug Phillips of Yukon Territory.

Premier Pasloski acknowledged the significant contributions of the growing Filipino community in Yukon, particularly in the capital Whitehorse. The number of Filipinos in Yukon have been steadily increasing over the years and he credited this to the Filipino's resiliency and capacity to adapt quickly to their new environment.

Ambassador Garcia thanked the Premier for the warm welcome accorded to her and officials from the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver led by Consul General Neil Ferrer. She invited the Premier to take a closer look at the Philippines' BPO industry and explore more opportunities to increase trade between Yukon and the Philippines.

In a meet and greet with the leaders and members of the Canadian Filipino Community of Yukon, Ambassador Garcia thanked them for their contribution towards enriching the people-to-people relations between the Philippines and Canada. She urged them to continue displaying the Filipino's finest qualities as "ambassadors" of their country.

Ambassador Garcia and Consul General Ferrer along with other High Commissioners from Ottawa and Consuls General from Vancouver attended a briefing by Yukon officials on the territory's state of economy, tourism and agreement with the First Nations which was followed by a reception hosted by the Premier.

Yukon is Canada's westernmost and the smallest of Canada's three federal territories.- END
