5 December 2012 - For the first time in 10 years, the Department of Tourism and Philippine Airlines (DOT-PAL) embarked on a roadshow in Canada that brought the latest Philippine tourism campaign to the key Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal on 1-5 December 2012.

On December 5, the joint roadshow hit Montreal with business-to-business meetings, presentations and a cocktail reception that allowed Philippine sellers to interface with Canadian tour operations and travel agents as well as with members of the Filipino community.

The Honorable Representatives Antonio F. Lagdameo Jr. and Reynaldo V. Umali joined a strong Philippine contingent led by Undersecretary Theresa I. Martinez, Mr. Felix Cruz, PAL Vice President for Marketing Support and reputable industry players such as Blue Horizons, Rajah Tours, TRIPS Travel, Uni-Orient, Shroff International Travel Care, Inc., cct.168 travel and tours, the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Astoria Hotel and Resorts and Microtel by Wyndham, among others. The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)was also on hand to promote foreign investments in the sector.

Philippine Ambassador Leslie B. Gatan introduced the Canadian audience to the Philippines as an exciting destination by citing the country's latest economic gains and the famed friendliness and hospitality of the Filipino people.

DOT assistance Secretary Benito C. Bengzon, Jr. delivered the good news on Philippine tourism and walked the audience through the catchy It's More Fun in the Philippines campaign. For his part, Mr. Cruz of Philippine Airlines rounded out the joint DOT-PAL presentation with the latest updates on the flag carrier's new direct flights to and from Toronto and its strong commitment to boost Philippine tourism by way of a multi-billion dollar refleeting program.

Colorful cultural entertainment during the reception was provided by the PamanangLuzviminda dance troup of Montreal.

"I am extremely grateful for the combined efforts of DOT, PAL and the private sector to unveil our hidden paradise before the Canadian market. With the support of such partners, including Ms. Mitchelle Dy of DOT Office in New York, we are encouraged to redouble our efforts to entice Canadian tourists to book and buy a trip to the Philippines in greater numbers," Ambassador Gatan enthused.
