23 September 2024, Ottawa. Alberta’s Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Muhammed Yaseen and Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria met on 23 September 2024 and discussed the big number of Filipinos in Alberta.
Both recognized the important role of the Filipino diaspora in the Philippines-Alberta relations. Minister Yaseen emphasized that Alberta values and appreciates the work that Filipinos are doing in the Province and will continue to collaborate with the Philippine government on mutually beneficial programs concerning Filipino workers.
Ambassador Austria thanked Minister Yaseen and the Province of Alberta for welcoming Filipinos. She lauded the Province’s effort towards easing the barriers to foreign credentials recognition. She expressed hope that these would pave the way for more Filipino nurses, particularly those who are already in Canada, to contribute more significantly to Alberta’s economy and government.
Alberta is home to one of the biggest Filipino communities in Canada, with the number of Filipinos estimated at 204,000. END.
