19 August 2024, Fredericton, New Brunswick- The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa conducted a Consular Outreach Mission in Fredericton, New Brunswick on 17-18 August 2024. Representatives from the Embassy and the Toronto-based Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Social Security System (SSS) accomplished the following during the two-day program:
- rendered a total of 249 consular services, including passport applications and renewals, legalization of documents, civil registry, and dual citizenship applications;
- administered the oath of allegiance of 45 qualified individuals under the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 or more commonly known as the Dual Citizenship Law (R.A. 9225);
- processed 111 Overseas Voters registration and records update/transfer applications;
- assisted 59 SSS members in the filing of death benefits and condonation of outstanding loans, and updating of member's record and annual confirmation of pensioners; and
- assisted 59 workers in the verification of their employment contracts and updating of their OWWA memberships.
The Embassy also organized a Kapihan with Filipino international students and newcomers in Fredericton and briefed them on the Philippine Government services available to them through the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, and the Toronto-based SSS and Migrant Workers Office. Representatives from the Filipino Community also joined the Kapihan.
The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa holds consular jurisdiction over New Brunswick, which is home to 5,190 Filipinos according to the 2021 census of Statistics Canada. END
