With their growing number in Charlottetown, PEI, Filipinos look forward to the consular outreach team conducted by the Embassy at least once a year
The applicants for dual citizenship are introduced to the Bagong Pilipinas program of the current administration
4 August 2024, Charlottetown. The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa sent a team to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) on 3-4 August 2024. A total of 279 services were rendered, which includes passport applications, legalization, civil registry and dual citizenship applications. The bulk of the consular services provided by the team were on passport renewals. The rest were on legalization, and civil registry.
There were also 11 qualified individuals who took their oath of allegiance under the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 or more commonly known as the Dual Citizenship Law (R.A. 9225). There were a total of 94 Overseas Voter registrants.
Toronto-based representatives from the Migrant Workers Office joined the outreach to provide labor-related services.
In their meeting with the Filipino community leaders, the Embassy representatives shared information about recent developments in Philippines-Canada relations and information on the Embassy’s project of developing a Canada-wide registry of Philippine-education/licensed nurses.
The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa holds consular jurisdiction over PEI, which is home to 1,500 Filipinos according to the 2021 census of Statistics Canada. END
