30 June 2024, Ottawa – The month-long celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month in Canada culminated in a Thanksgiving Mass at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Ottawa attended by Philippine Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Maria Andrelita Austria, together with the personnel and family members of the Philippine Embassy, joined the Filipino-Canadian community in Ottawa.

His Excellency, The Most Reverend Yvan Mathieu, S.M., Auxiliary Bishop of Ottawa-Cornwall, officiated the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Following the Eucharistic Celebration, a lunch reception and cultural performances were held at the Parish’s multipurpose hall.

Organized by the Philippine Independence Day Committee of the Ottawa Valley (PICOV), led by its chairperson, Nora Arriola, the Thanksgiving Mass is an annual tradition of the Filipino-Canadian community in Ottawa to cap off the many activities celebrating Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month in Canada.
