14 June 2024, Montreal – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada, represented by Minister and Consul General Rea G. Oreta, joined the Seniors of West Islands and the Suburbs (SWIS) during  its celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence through a dinner-dance gala at the Olympia Reception Hall in Dollard Des Ormeaux (DDO) in Montreal, Quebec on 14 June 2024.

Consul General Oreta commended SWIS for their continuing efforts to promote Philippine cultural heritage and highlighted the achievements of the Filipino Community in Canada. She likewise encouraged the community to continue to work together for the betterment of the life of Filipinos, both in the Philippines and Canada. 

Also present during the event were DDO Mayor Alex Bottausci, Councillor Stephanie Valenzuela and former Member of Parliament for Pierrefonds-Dollard Frank Baylis.

SWIS is a community organization founded in 2011 for Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians aged 55 years old and above. END
