6 June 2024, Ottawa - The Philippine Embassy in Canada welcomed the nine participants of the 2024 National Philippine Parliamentary Internship Program of the Canada-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group (CPIPFG) on Wednesday afternoon, 5 June 2024, at the Embassy’s Mindanao Hall.

Embassy officials, led by Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria, provided the interns a briefing on the comprehensive view of the Philippines, its foreign policy, trade and economic development, history and culture, geography, and bilateral relations with Canada, as well as the Embassy's consular operations and engagement with the Filipino community.

In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Austria encouraged the interns to leave a mark in the Canadian political landscape and advocate for interests that help not only the Filipino community, but all migrant communities that contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of Canada.

The briefing was followed by an interesting open forum during which the interns asked questions and articulated their insights and takeaways during the event.

The National Philippine Parliamentary Internship Program is a unique nonpartisan political internship opportunity that welcomes youth of Filipino descent to engage in a summer program in Ottawa to learn about the Canadian Federal Government, the legislative process, and the significance of Philippine representation by meeting with Members of Parliament and Senators. It is spearheaded by the Canada-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group (CPIPFG) and supported by the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada. This year, the program runs from 6 May to 14 June 2024. END
