7 May 2024, Vancouver - Philippines Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo delivered a Foreign Policy Address on the Indo-Pacific Region at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
The event, which was organized by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, provided critical insights into the dynamic shifts within the Indo-Pacific region's geopolitical and economic landscapes.
Secretary Manalo emphasized the importance of a rules-based order in the South China Sea to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He likewise acknowledged the centrality of ASEAN in shaping the landscape of the region.
As Canada and the Philippines mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, Secretary Manalo also highlighted developments that underscore a mutual commitment to deeper ties. He expressed optimism on the future directions of the Philippines-Canada partnership, underlining the shared values of democracy, inclusivity, and economic progress.
The keynote address concluded with the reaffirmation of the country’s commitment to ensuring that the Indo-Pacific remains an engine of global growth and a hub of opportunity for all. END
