05 March 2024, Ottawa – Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria accompanied a delegation of Philippine energy regulators, experts and representatives in meetings with Canada’s nuclear energy institutions in Ottawa. The delegation met with senior officials from Global Affairs Canada’s International Trade, Natural Resources Canada, and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission who briefed them on Canada’s nuclear energy technology and their history in safely assisting other countries develop their own nuclear energy capacity. The delegation also met with senior executives from the Canadian Commercial Corporation and Export Development Canada to look at the ways Canada can assist the Philippines in importing the technology.
The Philippine delegation includes senior leadership from the Department of Energy, Department of Science and Technology, the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, and senior executives from AboitizPower, Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), and Prime Metro BMD Corporation. The delegation visit is organized by Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service and includes meetings with Canadian nuclear energy companies and site visits to nuclear facilities in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
