14 August 2023, Halifax, Nova Scotia - The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa dispatched a team to Halifax, Nova Scotia for a consular outreach mission on 12-14 August 2023. This is the Philippine Embassy’s first consular outreach mission in the maritime provinces for the year 2023.
A total of 315 services were rendered, which includes passport application, legalization, civil registry and dual citizenship applications. Of the 315 services, a total of 192 passport applications were processed, including passport applications of around 80 minors.
There were also 30 qualified individuals who took their oath of allegiance under the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 or more commonly known as the Dual Citizenship Law (R.A. 9225).
Representatives from the Migrant Workers Office-Toronto also joined the outreach to provide labor-related services, conduct site inspection and monitor active cases involving Overseas Filipinos in Nova Scotia.
The Philippine Embassy holds consular jurisdiction over Nova Scotia, which is home to 6,615 Filipinos.
Aside from Filipinos in Nova Scotia, Filipinos from the neighboring maritime provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick were also served by the mission.
The consular outreach mission is part of the Embassy’s efforts to bring its services closer to Filipinos outside of Ottawa. END
