8 August 2023, Ottawa – Sentro Rizal Ottawa successfully launched the Kuwento ng Alon (As Told by the Waves), an art exhibit by the missionary visual artist Kristine S. Lim, through an opening reception held at the Mindanao Hall of the Embassy on 4 August 2023.
Philippine Ambassador to Canada Maria Andrelita Austria proudly opened the exhibit, describing it as a testament to the creativity of the Filipino people. Ambassador Austria added that the exhibit not only celebrates the maritime and archipelagic features of the Philippines, but most importantly, the stories of Filipinos all over the world, all testimonies of the faith, spirit, and resilience of the Filipino people.
In her speech, Ms. Lim shared how Kuwento ng Alon was born during the height of the pandemic in 2020, in partnership with Filipino composer, songwriter and record producer Jonathan Manalo. Ms. Lim emphasized that her artworks carry with them the story of every Filipino.
The artworks featured were a series of Lualhati and Pagsinta limited collections. Ms. Lim presented her featured masterpiece “Thy Kingdom” to Ambassador Austria, as a token of appreciation to the Embassy’s hosting of the exhibit.
An “Artist on a Mission,” Kristine Lim is a multi-awarded missionary visual artist whose “Kuwento ng Alon” (As Told by the Waves) series of artworks were based on her interpretation of the songs of Mr. Jonathan Manalo, Filipino songwriter, and record producer. Supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the “Kuwento ng Alon” had successful exhibits in Australia, Japan, Singapore, and China. After Ottawa, its next destination is San Francisco, CA USA.
Hosted at the Embassy, the Kuwento ng Alon exhibit in Ottawa is open to the public during weekdays in the whole month of August 2023. END
