5 June 2023, Ottawa – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada, represented by Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, Myca Magnolia M. Fischer, joined the Seniors of West Islands and the Suburbs (SWIS) during its celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence through a dinner-dance gala at the Olympia Reception Hall in Dollard Des Ormeaux in the City of Montreal on 2 June 2023.
Ms. Fischer commended SWIS Chairperson Lolita Odulio and other SWIS members for their continuing efforts to promote Philippine cultural heritage and provide companionship to their members through social services and friendly visits. She took the opportunity to report the highlights of the Embassy’s consular operations last year. Dollard-des-Ormeaux’s Mayor Alex Bottausci also graced the event, together with leaders of other various Filipino groups in Montreal. Pamana Group entertained the crowd with its performance of Philippine traditional dances of Tinikling and Binasuan.
SWIS is a community organization founded in 2011 for Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians aged 55 years old and above. END
