11 May 2023- The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, led by Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria received the officers and members of the Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley (PICOV) in view of the upcoming celebrations for the 125th Philippine Independence Day and the Philippine Heritage Month in June. 

As a non-profit organization, PICOV aims to promote Philippine Heritage through traditional and cultural Filipino events in the Ottawa Valley. As part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations, PICOV is organizing the flag raising ceremony at the Ottawa City Hall, a picnic to be attended by multiple Filipino organizations, a Eucharistic Celebration, and Gala.

Ambassador Austria and the PICOV officers likewise discussed other possible initiatives to increase awareness and appreciation of Philippine culture and heritage among the young generation of Filipino Canadians and the society at large. 

Ambassador Austria was joined by Deputy Head of Mission Myca Magnolia Fischer, Consul Rea Oreta and Vice Consul Mary Jaselle Menteer. PICOV was led by its President, Ms. Nora Arriola. - END
