ChargĂ© d'Affaires, a.i. Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III promoted awareness on human trafficking in a briefing to members of the Filipino diaspora in the Prince Edward Island P.E.I., Canada's smallest province.

In a meeting with the representatives of the Filipino Community in P.E.I. organized by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Toronto on 16 September 2022, Fernandez encouraged participants to monitor human trafficking indicators in order to protect Filipino employees against falling victim to this modern version of slavery.

The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa actively undertakes activities to create awareness on human trafficking across Canada for the protection of the Filipino diaspora, the second largest concentration of overseas Filipinos after those in the United States.

There has been a significant growth in the size of the Filipino community in P.E.I. after efforts by employers to attract Filipino employees in the healthcare, fishery, and agriculture sectors of the province.
