Members of the Carlton University United Nations Society are slated to represent the Philippines during the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference organized by Harvard University.
The participating students called on Ambassador Leslie B. Gatan at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa to discuss a diverse range of international and multilateral diplomacy issues.
Meeting the Ambassador were Society members Mr. Dashiell Dronyk, Mr. Jon Dugal, Mr. John Hoyle, Ms. Erin Thompson, Mr. Chris Tomalty, and Ms. Jillian Rose White. Minister and Consul General Neil Ferrer, and First Secretary and Consul Eric Gerardo Tamayo joined the Ambassador during the discussions.
The Carlton University United Nations Society delegation will attend the Model UN conferences in Kingston, Montreal, Boston, and New York City. The 2012 Harvard MUN will be in Vancouver, Canada and will be held from March 11-15, 2012.
The MUN is a simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate student participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. As assigned by Harvard University, the Carlton University students will be representing the Philippines.
The Carleton University United Nations Society is a student-run organization that strives to promote a better understanding and appreciation for global affairs and the role of the United Nations. Established in 2003 as a model United Nations club, the society has since expanded its mandate to become Carleton’s international affairs association.
Participants to MUN Conference coming from Carlton University have performed creditably in recent years and have consistently ranked among the best of the Canadian universities in terms of awards received.
The Embassy wished them the best in their endeavor and expressed appreciation for their efforts in “representing” the Philippines at the MUN.
